22 years of Costa Rica, from the inside.
My Costa Rica has planned custom holidays from San José since December 2004. We are not a booking site and we do not resell other people's packages: we design every trip ourselves and run it with our own team on the ground.
How it started
It began with a student, a paper map and the bus
Our founder, Jason Bateman, first came to Costa Rica in 1999 as a study-abroad student at the University of Costa Rica. He spent that year exploring on weekends with a paper map, learning to surf, riding public buses and camping on beaches, crossing destinations off one by one.
He came back after university to teach English, and people kept asking him the same thing: where should we go, and how do we get there?
In December 2004 he started My Costa Rica to answer that question properly. Twenty-two years later the same idea runs the company. Jason has seen the country as a backpacker in hostels and as a guest in its best five-star hotels, and that range is what we put into every itinerary.

One website, MyCostaRicaLink.com, and a habit of answering every question from someone who had actually been there.
The border closes
For eight to nine months every trip was cancelled. We came through it and rebuilt from zero, and many travel companies here did not.
Declaratoria Turística
In March 2026 we received our Declaratoria Turística from the Costa Rica Tourism Board, on top of our ICT licence.
Over 40,000 clients
A team in San José, an office in Boulder, Colorado, and more than 1,200 five-star reviews from the people who travelled with us.

Anyone can put an itinerary together from a website. What you cannot buy anywhere else is the half of our company you never see: the people holding your bookings and answering the phone while you travel.
